Spencer Kappenman, MS

Counselor Intern

Hello everyone! My name is Spencer. I am a Sioux Falls native and am passionate about providing mental health assistance to my hometown.

I completed both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at South Dakota State University. I graduated with my BS in Human Development and Family Studies in 2021, and with my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2023.Over the last year I completed my student internship at Sioux Falls Psychological Services. Following this, I joined the Stronghold Counseling Services team to continue on my path to licensure.

I assist teens and adults as they navigate anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, and identity issues. Collaboration with the client is my top priority. I believe my clients are the experts in their lives, and that I’m here for support, psychoeducation, and objective reflection. Every individual’s experience with therapy is unique, and I want to ensure my client’s needs are met while they embark on their journey of self-discovery.

Throughout life we experience moments that shake the foundations we have built. Unexpected loss, hardships, and misfortune can impact us in ways we never expected. When we find ourselves in these situations, our support systems aid us on our path of recovery and development. I am here to serve that purpose for you.

Outside of the office I am often reading, exercising, cooking, continuing my education, and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to working with you!
